I have a Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Composition from the University of Maryland. I have taught writing courses for over 15 years. Courses I've taught include Introduction to Academic Writing, Advanced Composition, and Academic Writing. As an undergraduate and graduate student, I taught reading, grammar, writing, and helped students prepare for the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT).I consider teaching and tutoring to be acts of service, as I foster my students' cultural, intellectual, and economic growth. I show my students that I have faith in them and in their ability to succeed. My students do more than prepare for a paper or an examination by merely absorbing the material. They learn how strong they are and that they have value because I teach them commitment, perseverance, and self-discipline.I also encourage my students to apply critical thinking to their studies beyond our sessions so they can succeed in putting forth their ideas as productive members of society. Knowing the conventions of the American English language allows a student's writing to flow coherently, intelligently, gracefully, and with sophistication.In my leisure time, I like playing chess, exercising, reading, and meditating.
